The new Braillephoneã Generation IV was developed to provide people who are deaf/blind with a portable communications system that has the ability to meet the needs of the information age. Braillephoneã allows a person who is deaf/blind to communicate over telephone lines with another person using either a TTY or via a deaf relay service. In addition it's ability to provide telephone communication, Braillephoneã can also be used for face-to-face communications between a person who is deaf/blind and a sighted person or between two people who are deaf or deaf/blind.
In addition to its’ telephone capability, Braillephoneã is designed to enable people who are deaf/blind to access most Microsoft MS-DOS or Windows-based compatible computer systems when used with a compatible computer and optional software.
Over the years Braillephoneã has proven to be the most trouble-free product ever produced for people who are deaf/blind. It's so easy to use that most people are up and running after only an hour or two of training! Because all the programming is firmware, all the problems associated with software-based systems are eliminated. With a simple keystroke, users can select between using the full qwerty keyboard or using the home row keys and spacebar as a braille keybaord.
Braillephone'sã unique plug-in palm-sized Vibrating Data Detector (patent pending) provides hands-free continuous monitoring of the status of all information--including the ringing of the telephone! This allows the user to be fully informed of the status of the conversation while keeping their hands free to type and read the braille display. The innovative Vibrating Data Detector increases the speed of the conversation, and provides the user with continuous instant feedback and assurance whenever information is exchanged.
If a person wants to access a computer, Braillephone'sã 23 cell 8 dot refreshable braille display can be separated from the modified TTY. The system comes with cables and MS-DOS software. It works with most available Windows screen reading software packages. The system's three status cells continuously monitor the location of the moveable braille window when operating in computer mode, enabling users to keep screen perspective.
